Te toi whakairo, ka ihiihi, ka wehiwehi, ka aweawe te ao katoa: Artistic excellence makes the world sit up in wonder.
Programme Overview
Kia ora and greetings conference participants. This overview is to provide an outline of the conference programme. More information about who is presenting, when and where, will be added over the next few weeks as we work to develop the full conference programme.
Pōhiri
The pōhiri (Māori welcoming ceremony) will be held at Victoria University of Wellington’s Te Herenga Waka marae (traditional meeting house). There are specific protocols for this pōhiri so we will prepare conference participants for this special cultural experience.
Opening addresses
We have invited the Rt Hon Jacinda Ardern, Professor Helen May and Dr Mere Skerrett to open our conference.
Themes
Each morning of the conference will focus on an individual conference theme with related presentations and workshops.
Brilliant Bursts
The ‘brilliant burst’ format includes three speakers who speak for 10 minutes each, highlighting key ideas, complexities and tensions within a conference theme, from their particular roles and perspectives. All conference delegates will attend these sessions. 15 minutes of questioning and discussion will follow. This shared dialogue will provoke delegates’ curiosity for the presentations and workshops that will follow.
Presentations
45 minute paper presentations will include 15 minutes for dialogue with participants.
Workshops
1.5 hour hands-on visual art workshops.
Art Play
Free play with art materials will be available throughout the conference venue over the four days.
